Fantasy Football
Posted by JP at 03:20 PM in Sports | Comments (3)

My brother Joe talked me into joining a Fantasy Football league. Actually, he did more than talk me into it. He paid the $20 entry fee, and drafted the team for me.

I'll have fun with it, but for the most part, I've never enjoyed Fantasy Football. I'm such a die hard Giants fan, that the idea of rooting for Donovan McNabb or Clinton Portis makes me nauseous. It's not enough for me to root for McNabb to have a great game AND pull for the Eagles to lose. Maybe I'll find someone willing to take McNabb or Portis off my hands. If I can unload them before October 30th [for Portis] and November 20th [for McNabb] to avoid having to play them against the Giants. Any takers? [they won't come cheap]

The whole team is in the extended entry...

QB's:
Donovan McNabb - filthadelphia [first overall pick]
Matt Hasselback -Sea

WR's:
Reggie Wayne - Ind
Antoin Boldin - Ari
Eric moulds - Buf
Dante Stallworth - New Orleans

RB's:
Julis Jones - Dal
Clinton Portis - Was

TE:
Shockey

K:
Janikowski - Oak

Defense:
Buffalo
Eagles

Bench players:
Duce Staley - Pit RB
Joey Harrington - Det QB
Ben Rothlisberger -Pit QB
Pollard -Det TE
Jerome Bettis -Pit RB
Ashley Lelie - Den WR

Ahhh...fantasy football...here's my take...

I stay away from those players just for the reasons you mentioned. A lot of people would argue that I'm commiting a "fantasy sin" but for $20, I don't really care and rather be able to root for the Giants. Sometimes I won't start someone against the Giants because you ar right...you wanna root for Big Blue! However, if you look at it as the glass being half-full, then you can start players agains thte Giants and root for the Giants. It's like if the Giants win you are happy and if your fantasy players does well you are happy...it reduces the anger when either plays like crap. All bets are off however when the fantasy playoffs come!

Try not to saturate your team with a team's Offense like a QB, QR, TE, RB from the same team...your team will rely too much on that NFL team. Not good if the whole teams sucks it up one week. Some combos can be potent like a QB/WR or QB/TE combo. However some don't like doing that.

The #1 rule...think of the players as points. Just make sure you have players that put up stats that we score. i.e. a Qb that may get sacked a lot wouldn't be considered a good QB in the NFL (remember Danny Kannel taking the 3 step drop and falling down to get sacked....remember those painful Giant days?). However if that same guy threw for a bunch of yards and a TD, he would make a good fantasy QB since our league does not take away points for sacks.

Bottom line-
#1 don't have too many players from the same team.
#2 make sure your players are putting up the stats for the categories we score.
#3 have fun with it...talk some trash on the board, make some trades, make some counteroffers, and enjoy!!!
