Trooper Joe and I headed down to Seward yesterday.
While the weather in Anchorage hasn't been that bad, in the high 30s and low 40s during the day [between 2° and 6° Celsius for the Euro-visitors], the Chugach mountains have been covered in snow. This I'm told is the ten day warning for snowfall in the Anchorage area. Heading down the Kenai Peninsula, the Sterling Highway winds up to around 1100' above sea level [according to the Garmin eTrex]. It didn't snow while we were on the Kenai, but it had obviously snowed the night before. There was a decent dusting above 600 feet, and as you headed further up the previous night's accumulation was heavier. There was even a stretch of ten miles or so that had been plowed -- maybe two or three inches of the white stuff.
We reached Seward, and grabbed some halibut for lunch. The fellow at the cafe where we ate told us some outrageous bear stories, some of which were undoubtably true. We haven't run into any bears this week, nor moose for that matter.
We didn't stop at the Sea Life Center, opting instead to wander around the harbor. We saw blooms [or smacks, according to Wikipedia] of jellyfish in the harbor; some small and medium-sized, and a few gigantic medusa-like blobs free-floating along. We also saw what we believed to be some Stellar's sea lions frolicking about.
The mountains along Resurrection Bay were gorgeous; snow-capped, with a gorgeous blue sky and the sun creeping lower on the horizon [as winter approaches] providing some amazing lighting on the jaged peaks. And thus, the tale of two cameras...
I have two Minolta X-700 bodies. One has a bit of a shutter issue; it constantly underexposes. Someone told me that it's an issue with some magnets wearing out, and not holding the shutter open long enough. I haven't bothered to get it tweaked yet, because I've got a perfectly serviceable spare.
Unfortunately, sometimes I grab the wrong camera body. I made the two hour trek to Seward, complete with five rolls of film and four lenses, and a camera that didn't work.
Nuts.
