While on vacation in Del Boca Vista I was able to snap a quick photo of this Anolis sagrei, or brown anole. I snuck up on him as he caught the last few rays of the afternoon sun. When I moved within a few feet, he began to display his bright orange dewlap.
At first I thought he was showing off for the photograph, but then he mumbled something about raising my insurance premiums if I took one step closer.
There's a five foot long gator that haunts the nearby pond. Everytime I tried to sneak up to catch a quick portait, the gator would take off for the water.
In retrospect, I guess I shouldn't complain about a skittish gator and an overly aggressive anole. If it had been the other way around, I might have run into some trouble.
Besides, playing it safe is what helps a five foot gator become a fifteen foot gator, rather than a fancy new pair of shoes. The anole on the other hand will probably end up in the belly of some bird. Serves him right.
