Trooper Joseph Longobardo died of injuries sustained when he was shot in the leg during a manhunt for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips. More here. Trooper Donald Baker, Jr. remains in critical condition in a medically induced coma. Troopers Longobardo and Baker were keeping an eye on the home of a girlfriend of Phillips.
According to WGRZ, the girlfriend is now back behind bars after her bail was revoked. News reports over the past few months have detailed the "hero" status that Phillips has enjoyed as a fugitive. For a sample, check the comments on this thread.
Blue Crab Boulevard has a good post on the suspected cop killer.
UPDATE: Blue Crab Boulevard was nice enough to link back... thanks!
The New York State Troopers have a page on Phillips, as well as a wanted poster [.pdf file] for folks in western NY or northern Pennsylvania.
Of course, in the United States you are innocent until proven guilty. While America's Most Wanted provides some compelling evidence, Phillips will eventually get his day in court...
...unless the next Trooper he tries to kill gets him first.
