The search for Ralph Phillips continues. Some good news: Trooper Donald Baker, Jr. has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.
Personally, with the increased attention on Phillips now that Trooper Joseph Longobardo has died, I wouldn't be surprised if Phillips turns himself in.
However, he probably believes he has nothing to lose at this point, and I also wouldn't be shocked if he stays on the run, eventually killing himself [directly, or suicide by cop] when and if the NY State Troopers corner him. Let's hope that no civilians are injured, and the Troopers get their man.
Unfortunately, this manhunt is eeriely similar to that of Eric Robert Rudolph, who was on the run for over five years. Phillips, like Rudolph, has some sympathy within segments of the population out in western New York. Every time someone looks the other way [or purposely aides Phillips] the Troopers lose one more chance to bring in the suspected cop killer.
While I have no idea if Phillips has survivalist or outdoors skills [as Rudolph is reported to have had], news reports state that authorities have scoured hunting camps in western New York.
Hopefully his time as a fugitive all-star will be coming to a close, soon.
CNN has some more on the manhunt.
