The Tightwad Bank is closing its doors. Or more correctly, it's closing its drive-thru. The lobby was closed years ago.
I got a phone call the other day. A reporter found this blog while researching the net for folks who have accounts at the bank in Tightwad.
I don't have an account. You can read about my attempt to open one in the blog post. The Kansas City Star article is here or here [free registration may be required].
It was great chatting with Mark Davis, the reporter for the KC Star. He seemed in disbelief at first, when I told him I specifically drove to Missouri [from Maryland, by way of Montana] just to open an account in some obscure town's tiny bank. I think I sold him when I read the phone numbers for the Tightwad and Warsaw branches off the key chain I still carry.
As for Darf-man, he's enjoying life Down Under, I believe. I get an e-mail every know and then. Usually to remind me of how good those young Pittsburgh Penguins look.
Such a shame: Seems this girl just gained access to online checking at the Tightwad Bank.
