If you're smoke detector is hardwired to the 120v power and it keeps beeping after you put a fresh battery in it, here's what you do.
1. Disconnect the battery and the 120v power.
2. Hold down the test button for 20 seconds.
3. Reconnect the battery and AC power, and re-install it.
That will drain the juice left in the detector, and cause it to "reboot" like a computer.
It won't stop the beeping though.
That's because the beeping is coming from the carbon monoxide detector in the same hallway. Doh!
I'll be pricing carbon monoxide detectors on Tuesday. I want to bring one to the rifle range when it opens back up this week. I figure if it's less than $25 it'll be worth it. I'm already going to put a box of ammo through Usama bin-Samsung. [let that be a lesson to all who would freeze up during the climactic scene in The Towering Inferno]

The Insta-dude comments on finding solutions via the internet. Heck, that's how I found my solution. I'm just glad I'm not the nitwit that admitted their foolish mistake online! Doh!
