Reading a story like this:
The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.

...reminds me of what Tom Wolfe said about the greatest unexplained phenomena of modern astronomy: that the dark night of fascism is always descending in the United States and yet lands only in Europe.
I mean, what a horrible situation for a Frenchman with a video camera who catches le gendarmerie abusing authority.
Now, if the exception is only for professional journalists, what if a government security camera catches someone committing a violent act? Is the operator of that security camera exempt?
Knowing the French, probably not.
